WG NaN held its 10th meeting in Sophia Antipolis, France at the kind invitation of ETSI on 22-23 April 2015. An ad hoc meeting was held on 21 April. As the meeting was held with ETSI in the spirit of fostering closer collaboration in the work of ETSI and WG NaN, ETSI TC NTECH members were invited to participate as observers.
Here are the highlights from the meeting.
New ECC Deliverables:
The meeting adopted two new deliverables:
- ECC Recommendation (15)02 – Guidelines for fundamental changes to national numbering and dialling plans
- ECC Recommendation(15)03 - Provision of Comparable Information on Retail Internet Access Service Quality
WG NaN also adopted, for public consultation, a Draft ECC Report entitled 3rd Party Use of NP Data. The public consultation on this important deliverable will run from Tuesday 28 April 2015 until Tuesday 9 June 2015. The results of the public consultation will be analysed at the next meeting of PT NP which will take place in Budapest on 10-11 June 2011.
ECC and ECTRA Recommendations for review
Several ECC and ECTRA Recommendations are now up for review. WG NaN has a policy to review any ECC Decisions or Recommendations under its purview every 5 years. The Chairman tasked the relevant Project Teams to review the deliverables and report back at the next meeting. The deliverables in question are:
- ECC/REC(12)04, ECC/REC/(04)04, ECC/REC/(04)02, ECTRA/REC(98)02 , ECTRA/REC(98)03, ECTRA/REC(97)01
Updates from the Project Teams, Future Work Items and Questionnaire Results
The meeting also heard progress reports from its 4 Project Team chairman and various work items were approved for the work programme of each of the Project Teams. Presentations on the results of all questionnaires issued since the last meeting in Oslo were made by various WG NaN participants.
Update from ETSI TCs NTECH and SCP
The ETSI delegates participating in the meeting, Ms. Chantal Bornardi and Mr. Xavier Piednoir, provided insightful presentations on the work of ETSI NTECH and progress on the standardisation of the eUICC taking place within ETSI TC SCP.
ETSI-NTECH Liaison Officer
ETSI TC-NTECH, the Technical Committee within ETSI with responsibility for Numbering, Naming, Addressing and Routing, appointed Ms. Donatella Chiara as the new NTECH Liaison Officer to WG NaN in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the ECC and ETSI. The appointment is subject to formal approval by the next meeting of ETSI TC-NTECH on 16-18 June 2015. Donatella works for Telecom Italia and her role covers all facets of technical regulation including network planning, technology development planning and cost analysis. Donatella is active in the standardisation arena both within ITU-T SG2 and ETSI TC-NTECH and she is also heavily involved in the work of ETNO. The WG NaN Chairman, Mr. Johannes Vallesverd, welcomed Donatella as the new liaison officer and commented that her liaison between NTECH and WG NaN will help to foster closer collaboration and working relations between both groups. The chairman also noted Donatella’s positive approach and proactive participation in ETSI and ITU which should prove to be very beneficial in fully informing the work of WG NaN in the months and years ahead.
Project Team Vice-Chair Vacancies
The Chairman announced vice-chair vacancies for PT FNI and PT ES and encouraged those interested to submit applications for the posts. A formal request for applications will be circulated in due course.
Retirement of Mr. Pekka Sillanmäki (Finland)
The chairman brought to the attention of the participants that it was the final meeting of WG NaN for the Finnish delegate Mr. Pekka Sillanmäki. The chairman noted Pekka’s active and valuable participation in the work of WG NaN and its strategy task force over the years and wished him well in his retirement. Pekka thanked the chairman for his kind words and wished WG NaN participants well in the future.
