WG NaN approves new ECC Deliverables in Vienna

05 Nov 2015, 13:44
The 11th meeting of the Working Group Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) was held in Vienna, Austria, at the kind invitation of the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR-GmbH).

The meeting was attended by 40 delegates representing 27 administrations, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), as observers, and the European Communications Office (ECO).

New Deliverables

The meeting adopted one new deliverable:

  • ECC Report 238 – "3rd Party Access to Number Portability Data"

The meeting also approved 3 draft deliverables for public consultation:

  • Draft ECC Recommendation (16)01 on 3rd party access to Number Portability Data (NP Data)  – prepared by WG NaN / Project Team Number Portability (PT NP)
  • Draft ECC Recommendation (16)02 on Extra-territorial Use of E.164 Numbers – High Level Principles of Assignment and Use – prepared by WG NaN / Project Team Future Numbering Issues (PT FNI)
  • Draft ECC Report 248 on Evolution in CLI usage – decoupling of rights of use of numbers from service provision – prepared by WG NaN / Project Team Number Portability (PT NP)

The public consultation on these important deliverables will run from Monday 23 Nov 2015 until Monday 18 Jan 2016.

Presentation from RIPE-NCC

Mr. Marco Hogewoning from RIPE NCC, the regional Internet registry for Europe, gave a presentation on “IP and legacy numbers”. The presentation clearly defined the differences between addressing and routing comparing functions of OSI and TCP/IP protocol stacks and generated some discussion on how these resources could co-exist in the future.

WG NaN revised Terms of Reference

The terms of reference were reviewed on the recommendation of the WG NaN Strategy Task Force to recognise the work of PT ES and to bring them into line with the ECC Strategic Plan (2015-2020). The revised ToR will now be sent to the ECC plenary for approval.

ECC and ECTRA Deliverables withdrawn

ECC/REC/(04)02 “The choice of number range for services on emerging mobile systems” has been withdrawn as it is considered to be no longer relevant. ECTRA/REC(98)02 “Alphanumeric dialling in Europe” is withdrawn as it also considered to be no longer relevant.

Next Meetings

The 12th meeting of WG NaN will take place in Jūrmala, Latvia on 27-28 April 2016 at the kind invitation of the Public Utilities Commission of Latvia.
