SEAMCAT 5.0.0 alpha

On 20.12.2013 Jean-Philippe Kermoal (STG chairman - ECO) informed STG about the release of SEAMCAT 5.0.0 alpha (see the attached email), clearly pointing out to

not distribute the workspace with embedded PM or EPP plugins
Since it is an alpha release we are asking you not to distribute a workspace with embedded Propagation model or EPP plugin, because the feature is unstable at the moment.

With this, STG was requested to test the simulation functionalities of the new version of SEAMCAT as well as its new features PM (Propagation Model) and EPP (Event Processing Plugin).

This topic is not restricted to, but mainly concentrated on these new features.

Unlike the PM, which is nearly unchanged the same as designed for version 4 (however some refactoring of the code will make necessary to update all the PMs to be compatible with 5.0.0), the EPP is providing a completely new approach compared to the former PPP (Post Processing Plugin). Whilst the PPP took its information during the simulation after each snapshot in a single thread manner and did allow manipulating the simulated results, the EPP is called during the simulation (multi thread) in providing the (unchangeable) results as vectors and single values, respectively. The EPP allows you to generate then your own results and to “display” these either as single value or as vector to the Simulation Results panel.

But the EPP is much more flexible. You may generate for instance an “external” graphical result panel as shown on the attached figure “twoEPP”.

Shortly, the new EPP is really great, but …

As a circle of light increases so does the circumference of darkness around it. - Albert Einstein (?)

Currently, the EPP is provided with the Interfering Link(s) but taking account of only one single ILT for each link. This issue has been considered as fault and shall be solved soon.

There are some other points which I listed on the attached doc “Generic system”. Most of the parameters listed there might be covered with solving the aforementioned issue.

Everyone is warmly invited to contribute to this “wish list” and to report about her/his experiences with the new SEAMCAT. Let us make the best EPP ever.

Regards,
Karl
