The CEPT/ECC Working Group Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) adopted
ECC Report 194 entitled “Extra-territorial Use of E.164 Numbers” at its 6
th meeting of WG NaN in Budapest, Hungary on 17-18 April 2013.
Extra-territorial Use of E.164 numbers is defined in ECC Report 194 as the use of one country’s E.164 numbers in another country on a permanent basis. In brief, the Report concluded that a restrictive policy on extra-territorial use would be advisable. However, the Report also acknowledged the existence of possible exceptions to the general rule, where there may be advantages to the citizens of the countries involved, and that these cases requires further analysis.
In order to fully inform the discussion and the future direction of the work, WG NaN has decided that further consultation with stakeholders would be beneficial and to that end it has scheduled a public workshop that will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 27 January 2015. The workshop will be take place, at the kind invitation of the Belgian Institute for Postal services and Telecommunications (BIPT) at:
Ellipse Building - Bâtiment C
Boulevard du Roi Albert II35, 1030 Brussels
The workshop will start at 10:00 (Registration from 9:30) on Tuesday 27 January 2015 and will end no later than 16:30 on the same day. For further details, please see the formal invitation which is available here.
